PR-1 - Professional Grade Primer
PR-1 is a water-based resin used in conjunction with ADV Leather Cleaner or denatured alcohol to ensure adhesion on leather surfaces prior to repairs or color application. PR-1 is appropriate for all types of leather, including problematic leathers such as nitrocellulose finished, pull-up, oil-tanned, or pH damaged. Another attribute of PR-1 is it provides hold-out when finishing open-pored leathers, such as full- or semi-aniline, to retain softness and break characteristics. It can also be used on finished leathers, to promote adhesion on leather surfaces exhibiting signs of poor adhesion such as peel-up or flaking, or leathers that fail adhesion tests prior to repair compound or finish application. It is supplied in concentrate form, and should be mixed at a 1:3 ratio with ADV Leather Cleaner or denatured alcohol, although higher concentrations of PR-1 can be used in mixtures using ADV Leather Cleaner. We recommend no higher than 1:2.

Description: PR-1 is a water-based resin, used to promote adhesion on problematic unfinished leathers such as stain-treated anilines, pull-ups, or oil-tans, and semi-aniline (very lightly coated) leather. It can also be used on finished leather, but PR-2 is more specifically engineered for this purpose. PR-1 is a soft resin that is able to penetrate the fiber structure and provide a good base for adhesion of colors or fillers.
Application: PR-1 should be reduced 1:3 with ADV Leather Cleaner or denatured alcohol. Mixtures using ADV Leather Cleaner can be mixed as high as 1:2. HDPE or PET plastic bottles are recommended.
The primer mixture can be applied with a sponge, foam block, or cotton rag in an over-lapping circular motion. It can also be used in conjunction with a mild abrasive pad or exfoliating glove to drive the primer through UV- or pH-damaged surface fibers into the intact, underlying fiber structure.
Solvent handling and application procedures should be observed while applying the primer mixture (proper ventilation, respiratory protection, gloves, etc.).
The primer does not have an extended cure time. Once the solvent has evaporated, the area where the primer has been applied can have filler or colors applied immediately.
